Fußball Skills entwickeln

Copress Sport

Running on Empty

Orca Book Publishers | Orca Sports

Everyone expected Leon Kline, anchor for the 4x100 sprint relay, to secure Gilburn High's spot in the record books. But a freak accident on the final stretch changes everything. Suddenly his future is gone. No more running, no scholarship, no college. But then he meets sassy and straight-talking Casey De Vries, and life doesn't look quite so bleak. She even gets him running again. He can't sprint anymore, but he can handle longer distances. As he gets to know Casey better, he realizes that something is not quite right. How can he help her if she won't tell him what’s going on?

---

"This is a solid book with contemporary themes and it works well…Leon is well fleshed out as a character."

---

"Spreen Bates deftly takes the reader through the ups and downs of growing up. She expertly portrays real life struggles without making them too cliché. Moreover, in Leon Kline, we have found a character for whom the reader is willing to root."

---

"Sports fans will be drawn to the book by it's subject matter. The fully developed characters and story line packs a punch."

Sport Policy in Canada

Thibault, LucieHarvey, Jean (Hrsg.) | University of Ottawa Press | Open Access

Sport Policy in Canada provides the first and most comprehensive analysis of the new Canadian Sport Policy adopted in 2012. In light of this new policy, the authors, top scholars in the field, provide detailed accounts of the most salient sport policies and programs, while also discussing issues and challenges facing policy makers.

In Canada and around the world, the last decades have known a sharp increase in state intervention and public funding in pursuit of medals on the international stage and in support of a more active lifestyle. Governments at all levels have made substantial investments in hope of hosting major sporting events to benefit from the economic impact and gain international prestige. The study of sport policies, often neglected in the past, is becoming an increasingly important research topic. Sport Policy in Canada seeks to fill this void by offering the most comprehensive analysis of sport policy since Macintosh, Bedecki, and Franks' Sport Policy in Canada (1987).

- This book is published in English.

---

“Sport policy in Canada provides one of the most comprehensive overviews of the field of Canadian sport policy as it has evolved in recent years. It is impressive in both its breadth and scope. The edited collection includes chapters from many leading experts on Canadian sport policy. In addition, it is a timely contribution given the flurry of governmental policies and investments during the last decade. (…) The book is well written and accessible to a number of audiences. Its primary contribution lies in its extensive policy data, which provide the reader with an accurate historical and contemporary portrait of Canadian sport policies. (…) Overall, this book makes a positive contribution to the growing literature on Canadian sport policy. It provides a comprehensive overview of sport policy in Canada and addresses a number of policy issues facing by policy-makers and sport organizations. I recommend this book for both undergraduate and graduate students interested in Canadian sport policy. As a teaching tool, it can be used for courses dealing with sport policy, sport management and the sociology of sport to help students understand the broader issues impacting the governance of sport in Canada. This book will also be of interest to both governmental and non-governmental organizations involved in Canada's sport system.”

Hardball

Orca Book Publishers | Orca Sports

Baseball season has begun for the South Coast Sharks. As a senior, Griffin has college in his sights and plans to land himself a baseball scholarship. His determination causes him to turn a blind eye to the hazing of new players by the team captain, Wade. But when Griffin senses that his cousin Carson is getting the brunt of Wade’s aggression, Griffin finally stands up to him. Soon after, steroids are found in Carson’s locker, and he’s kicked off the team. Can Griffin stop Wade’s reign of terror, prove his cousin’s innocence and still stay on track with his baseball dreams?

"An action-packed, easy reading novel that will appeal to many readers. The fast pace will help keep reluctant readers motivated and give them a sense of pride when they complete the book. It is a hi-lo book, but the content can be enjoyed by readers of all abilities. Barwin uses sports fiction as a vehicle to address more complex issues related to youth. In Hardball, he is able to intersperse the action of the baseball games with the issues of bullying/hazing and drug-use. Reluctant readers will be left with a sense of accomplishment when they're finished Hardball, and they'll enjoy the mix of baseball and real-life issues."

---

"Griffin, the story’s narrator, is believably caught in a tempest of confusing problems, and in a satisfying turn of events, he musters the courage to stand up for what’s right."

---

"A novel which will engage young male readers...because of its sports theme and its deeper exploration of the affects of performance enhancing drugs on athletes...The story allows the reader to interact with different scenarios before drawing the story to a stunning conclusion...Highly recommended for school library collections, classroom collections, literature study groups, read alongs, complementary to discussion and study of the nature and affects of drugs on students."

---

"Short, fast-paced chapters keep the narrative moving with a mix of baseball play-by-plays and sleuthing. A drug-dealing subplot adds a layer of suspense and raises the stakes well beyond troubles on the ball field. Ideal for reluctant readers, this book's gritty undertones will appeal to the intended high/low audience of sports fans."

Steven Barwin leads a double life as a writer and a teacher. He is the author of a number of sport-themed books, including Orca Sports titles Hardball and Hurricane Heat.
