Cheers, Chocolate and Other Disasters

BWL Publishing Inc.

Disasters strike in many different forms. Thirteen year old AJ Devlin believes she has a great life with a good family, two BFFs, a love for cheerleading, and a Champion Quarter Horse mare. When a new girl arrives in town, AJ thinks nothing of it. It’s only when her best friends, Julie and Jaime, begin ignoring her that she wonders why Celine is insinuating herself into AJ’s life. As her life begins to fall apart in many different directions, she realizes that the “new girl” is intent upon destroying everything AJ holds dear. Yet, when her almost-boyfriend finds incriminating evidence against Celine, revealing that this girl is not who or what she claims to be, AJ refuses to allow him to disclose it. Before AJ can settle the score with Celine, she must confront the unexpected divorce of her parents and her now unstable relationship with her father; navigate a new and shaky friendship with one of her former BFFs, and learn to cope with a devastating tragedy that comes out of nowhere.

---

I loved this book. Middle school is a trying time for most kids. Mikki Sadil's main character, AJ faces more trials and tribulations in one year than most kids face in a lifetime. Between her prize mare getting sick, her parents divorce and the new kid, Celine, who has decided to make AJ's life miserable, it's a wonder AJ survives.

A Longview Christmas

Books We Love Ltd. | A Christmas Collection

Every Christmas Eve, Luke and Mary Cassidy’s friends and family gather to celebrate the holiday. From the kitchen wafts the scent of sugar cookies, fruit cake, and hot cider, not to mention all the other goodies. Gathered around the piano singing carols is a prelude to the Christmas Eve church service. This year Mary is worried about her beloved Luke’s health and she’s keeping an eye on the newly wedded Rob and Kayla. The poor girl is having a hard time keeping her cowboy hog-tied. Then there’s Cale and Michelle. She loves Michelle like the daughter she never had, and Mary is afraid the silly girl will let her pride get in the way of her happiness with the young vet who has bought into the practice. A match maker’s work is never done it seems. What better season than Christmas to give true love a tiny push?

Catch My Drift

Goose Lane Editions

An Atlantic Books Today Editor's Pick

Lorna always wanted to stand out, but her career as a competitive swimmer was cut short by a knee injury. Cara, her daughter, tries hard to blend in, but when she has to fill in for her brother at a school pageant, she is overwhelmed by terror. Lorna is vain about her ability to shut out distractions. Cara can’t control her scary thoughts. And while Lorna tries her best to move past life’s early disappointments, Cara picks at the cracks in her family’s story. Spanning two decades, Catch My Drift follows mother and daughter through life changes big and small, and reveals that despite our shared experiences, we each live a private story.

---

"Like the best contemporary novels, Genevieve Scott's Catch My Drift is alchemical. Scott harnesses the flinty realism and breathtaking prose of short fiction, mixes it with the emotional urgency and scope of a layered intergenerational drama and creates a compelling and thoroughly original portrait of the modern family. Rendered with sensitivity and insight, Catch My Drift is elegant, ambitious and tender, a rare novel in which an entire family comes of age."

---

"An ending I feared would be heartbreaking but ended up being perfect and beautiful."

---

"A compelling novel about a mother and daughter."

---

"A beautiful and bittersweet life story that needs to be on your summer reading list."

---

"An affecting novel-in-stories whose cleverness and comic moments intersect evocatively with moments of loss and regret."

---

"Genevieve Scott's Catch My Drift is a brilliant novel in linked stories, a mother/daughter tale like none I've read before. Scott writes with a sharp beauty that leaves me not just breathless but wanting more. I love her prose."
