Race to the stars - Physics, Love and Conspiracies

BookRix

This warm-hearted and funny love story captivates with its lively dialogues. In conjunction with an exciting conspiracy thriller à la The X-Files, it offers the reader an incomparable reading pleasure. 358 pages full of humor and excitement.

Already with his first words, he underlined his reputation of a hard and always frank lecturer, “I don’t intend to remember your names. Not because I’m not able to, but because I don’t want to waste any brain capacity. It’s needed for more important things I can assure you of this. Most of you will not be able to follow me and the complex subject anyway, so you will soon leave the course.”

Full of expectation, Theresa looked directly into the professor's eyes. He was around 6’1’ and rather skinny. His curly hair was tamed by a short haircut, which made his narrow face look younger. The professor seemed charming to her. That is he was charming until he opened his mouth.

“What a nice guy”, Theresa thought when he introduced himself.

Theresa Winter enrolls at the University of Berlin after a twelve-year compulsory break from her studies. There she meets the Scottish guest lecturer Peter Calder. She takes a course in quantum physics with the ingenious but quite misanthropic professor. His cynical appearance does not put her off she falls in love with the extremely intelligent man. Two extraordinary people meet, who seem to be made for each other. If it wasn't for the big age difference.

Thirty-year-old Theresa simply brushes aside the concerns of the not-so-young man calling them “bullshit". But is it really as simple as the young woman imagines? The young pretty woman, who is anything but rational, turns the quiet world of the perfectly rational physicist upside down so that he soon thinks he is going to lose his mind.

Together with her professor, she takes quantum physics a big step forward. Exactly the field in which her parents had done research. When Theresa and Peter are kidnapped by the former boss of the Winters, Edward Barnes, Theresa wonders into what her parents and now she herself have gotten into. And what about the dangerous man in the suit who seems to be everywhere?

They receive help from Interpol agent David Connelly and his wife, investigative journalist Sarah Ritter.

The author CD Sanders takes the reader with this story into her “world of thriller” revolving around Peter Calder and Theresa Winter, David Connelly and Sarah Ritter, Richard Stanton and Isabel Cole and the young scientist Ben Miller. These special people time and again encounter a mysterious power that always seems to intervene when they get into trouble. In this conspiracy thriller, the student and her professor not only experience an exciting love story, but also the newly fallen in love get into a conspiracy of galactic proportions. And time after time everyone involved meets the mysterious “man in the suit”.

Clara Bellamy - Sprache, Liebe und andere Schwierigkeiten

BookRix

Viktorianisches London 1870.

Victorian London, 1870. The 25-year old Clara Bellamy arrives London in order to view the Piccadilly Palace, a new and revolutionary department store. In the book department, she gets involved in a discussion between an arrogant customer and the young sales clerk James. Given that James obviously is not proficient in literature and is thus an erroneous employee for the book department, this did not reflect well on Piccadilly Palace. Thereby, it is soon evident that the customer is none other that Benedict Stewart, the esteemed literature professor who writes for the London News Courier.  Moreover, Benedict Stewart is there for the purpose of authoring a critique about the store. Clara, who loves books more than anything else, helps James on the spot. The director of the store, Thomas Carson, is so impresswed by Clara that he gives her a job – as the head of the book store. She is overjoyed, given that she was, following her ten years als governess, in search of a new challange.

Two months later, she receives a brochure pertaining to a course for creative writing being offered at the University of London. The young woman recalls her childhood dream of becoming an authoress, regardless of her reading and writing deficiencies. Given that the course is open to everyone, she enrolls. The teacher happens to be Benedict Stewart. He was „encouraged“ by his deacon to develop himself in the area of interpersonal relationships. Not the easiest of tasks, if one suffers, as he does, from a personality disorder.

Benedict is an absolute perfectionist. Nevertheless, he works together with Clara und assumes the role of her mentor. The young woman torments herself ever step of the way, endeavouring to write her stories. Sometimes, she just wants to give up, but Benedict forces her mercilessly to continue. As she begins falling in love with him, it doesn´t become any easier. It appears that she just can´t reach Benedict.

Can Clara begin a romantic relationship with Benedict Stewart? Or will she be unable to permeate the wall which the young professor built around himself?
