Partisan Heart

BWL Publishing Inc. | Tango of Death

Poland 1943-During WW II resistance movements occurred in every occupied country by a variety of means, ranging from propaganda to outright warfare and the recapturing of towns, as well as hiding crashed pilots. Partisan Heart tells the story of a Gypsy girl who follows her beloved into the forests of Poland and the Ukraine. Their partisan group is willing to risk their lives blowing up train trestles, attacking SS killing squads, and to infiltrate Nazis intelligence to destroy Nazi Germany. Resistance does exist. If nothing else, to die with dignity is a form of resistance.

Rita Karnopp has out-down herself with this Holocaust Tango of Death series. I can't wait for book 3 - Jewish Soul. When she told me she was writing a Holocaust trilogy I thought - egads, what will she write that hasn't been written about? When she told me over half a million Gypsies were murdered during the Holocaust, I was shocked. When I mention this to others - I get the same reaction.

Gypsy Spirit

BWL Publishing Inc. | Tango of Death

Gypsy Spirit is the story of fifteen year-old Zilka Sucuri, a Gypsy girl who is thrust into the horrors of the Holocaust. Her life of traveling from town to town, singing and dancing the Gypsy way comes to an unconscionable stop when a SS death squad shoot every man, woman, and child in her kumpania. If she had not literally been up a tree, she would have been among those lying dead in a mass grave. Her lungo drom (the long road) takes her across Poland, Austria, and Germany in a driving struggle to help an American pilot return safely to his unit so he can return to bomb the many concentration, work, and death camps all across Poland and Germany. Her efforts reveal the truths of Belzec, the challenges of the partisans, and the burning desire to survive to be a living witness of what truly happened to the non-Aryans of Hitler’s Germany. Gypsy Spirit is a story of the driving spirit of a Gypsy girl, who took it upon herself to document the truth. Her strength and determination brings to light a story of magnanimity and the fears and atrocities such a Gypsy girl might have lived through.

---

Gypsy Spirit completely captivated me as I learned from its historical background. This is Rita Karnopp's best novel yet. This is a well researched, well written story representing how life may have been for a young gypsy girl in this war torn area during World War II. This book compells the reader to not put it down but read to the end.

Jewish Soul

BWL Publishing Inc. | Tango of Death

Mayla Sucuri’s world is falling apart . . . no Gypsy is safe in Hitler’s Germany. Her twin sister, Vanya, has just run off with her love and joined the partisans. Now Mayla is being forced to leave her papa and younger sister, Zilka, with the kumpania. Heading to Switzerland with her mother, to the safety of her Grandmother’s chalet in Switzerland, Mayla fears she’ll never see any of them again. Her grandmother is connected to every high official in the SS. But not everything is as it appears. Because of her drive to be a doctor, Mayla finds herself invited to Dachau and Auschwitz. She quickly finds herself in the company of Doctor Josef Mengele and Doctor Sigmund Rascher, who are only too willing to share the results of their medical experiments on Jews and Gypsies. At great personal risk, Mayla refuses to turn down the opportunity to take notes and bear witness to the atrocities happening at the concentration camps. Mayla is drawn to Auschwitz where the distinctions between good and evil become blurred in a world turned upside down. Will it get her killed or will her unwavering resolve give her the strength and courage to rescue her sisters from the gas chambers?

---

Author Rita Karnopp has penned another gripping story centered around the age-old theme of good vs. evil. Point-of-view character Mayla is faced with the ultimate test in her pursuit to become a doctor: Will she abandon all moral reasoning in the pursuit of medical exploitation? Will she become a traitor to her beloved Gypsy people in order to attain her goals? Indeed, this story is steeped in strong conflict and deep-seated emotion. The characters are so real, they spring to life. I was "inside Mayla's head" each step of the way, and once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down.
