Family friction, peer pressure and her overly controlling father are threats her budding relationship, but

I thought the story was absolutely perfect. I hope other readers will get so indulged in this book, like me, that they can't put it down.

Life, Love, and Surviving High School

BWL Publishing Inc.

Becca hasn't been on the same page as her best friends since just before the start of middle school and she doesn't know exactly how things got so different. Not different in some edgy, gritty, she's-a-rebel way. More of a Yes-she's-a-dork way. Which makes it all the more amazing that while other friendships have crashed and burned all around them the four of girls have managed to stay Best Friends Forever. She doesn't need to share in her friends' spotlight. Becca's happy to follow along in the shadows, as long as she's not totally cast aside. She definitely not ready for guys. In fact, she just wants to skip right over high school and jump straight to twenty-two. By then she figures she will have gotten through her first date, first kiss, passed her driver's test, taken the SATs, filled out all those college applications, somehow survived living in a dorm and gotten her college degree without all the anxiety and drama.

---

It has been too long since I've read a lighthearted teenage romance and Life, Love, and Surviving High School did not disappoint. I had read It's All in Your Mind before, and fell in love with it, so I had high hopes for this novel. Luckily, I loved it all the same.

17-year-old Vija Skalbe wants to be an all-American girl—no matter how hard her parents try to impose their strict Latvian standards on her. She feels unsure of herself with one foot in each country. Then Nolan, a folksinger, steals her heart at a coffeehouse. When Nolan stops at their table, it's Vija's friend, Caprice, who does all the talking. But it is Vija who gets his phone number—and later the back seat of his motorcycle. Soon she is cruising from one adventure to another, dizzy with joy, her new-found freedom and the excitement of being with the kind of guy who is a challenge. It doesn't matter that Nolan wants everything his way. Or that he's constantly eyeing other girls. Or that he can be pouty and punitive. Or that he says she's seeing things all wrong. Until it does matter. But Vija's in so deep. Will he change? Will she deal with Nolan's controlling tactics, or is she too far under his spell?

Great coming of age novel. The heroine learns about what love really is as she has a summer filled with an infatuation. Enjoyed the time period which brought memories. But the lesson the heroine learned remains the same today. Great story.

Snowed In Together

BWL Publishing Inc.

What secrets are revealed when six teens get trapped at school on a Saturday? Wes and his best buds, Tony and Jeff, have enough brain power to fuel the entire sophomore class, but when it comes to their social lives, they are totally inept. So they volunteer to organize the art room on Saturday knowing three certain cheerleaders will be there for practice. Trouble is, none of the guys can come up with a plan to take advantage of the opportunity to be the only six students in the building. Then, thanks to a freak snowstorm, they're snowed in, which isn't so bad when the girls of their horniest dreams are there, too. Maybe it could give Wes the chance to make his fantasies about Ellyce come true! However, the last thing Wes expects is to be caught in a game that forces everyone to share his deepest secret. He fears if Ellyce discovers the story of his alcoholic father and abandonment by his mother, she'll never want anything to do with him.

---

It is a Wonderful story. I read it to a young friend. It sparked a great conversation. I explained that I remembered how tough it is to be a teen. I explained that I grew up in a house like Wes's. That no matter who we are, it is better to slow down & just communicate & offer a helping hand. As we lost another two children in Colorado this month this is a good book for young teens to read. It gave us time to talk about this book & the sad history we have to endure far to many Times.

Each of the magical landscapes described in 'Someone Like Him' were easy to visualize...a tale of love, humor and determination in this tale of a budding romance which tugs heavily on the heartstrings. I recommend this book to all who enjoy an unlikely love story filled with adventure
