Winter Fire, Canadian Edition

BWL Publishing Inc.

When Ethan Caine pulled the unconscious woman from the half-frozen creek, he had no idea that his world was about to explode. Dressed in quilled doeskin of Iroquois design, she stirred up dark secrets from his past. At the same time, she was everything he desired. But she was more Indian than white, and on the run for murder. He needed to know the truth. He needed to find it within himself to trust her. Banished by the Seneca Indians who had adopted and raised her, ostracized by the whites in the settlement, Zara Grey wanted only to be accepted. “Ethancaine” treated her with kindness and concern. It was easy to trust him. But her Indian ways disturbed him, and her heart she would always be Seneca.

---

Unique tale of a white child captured by the Iroquois in 18th century America, only to be ostracized by them in young adulthood. On the run, she is saved by a white man who carries a burden of guilt and shame from his past. Together they search for redemption and survival while pushing against the force of their love. Good historical detail of life on the frontier and finely drawn characters.

If you're looking for a book that delivers a strong heroine, great history (American Revolution/ turmoil of the soldiers and the American Indians) this is a perfect read for you. I really enjoyed Fischer-Brown's writing and the entertaining plot she created. Great read and great adventure.

This book was so intricate in detail that I learned a lot about history. I loved that the author took us to great landmarks in the U.S., especially Philadelphia

The Return of Tachlanad

BWL Publishing Inc. | The Sword of Names

Once upon a time in the beleaguered land of Lothria… A princess under a magical aura, her absent-minded sorcerer grandfather; a conflicted warrior prince; a young ne’er-do-well who finds an unlikely friend while on an impossible quest; an imprisoned queen, her betrayed king, their enchanted son and his beautiful enchantress; half-human man-eating rebel slaves; a band of blood-thirsty assassins…and Tachlanad, the legendary Sword of Names, missing for generations. When the queen receives an omen, it can mean only one thing: the fate of all she loves hangs in the balance. The land and its people will topple into chaos if a tenuous alliance cannot be preserved. Her husband misled by sinister forces, her son gone missing, she sends her daughter and father on a journey far to the west to reach the impregnable stronghold of “the True King in Hiding.” There they will seal the truce with her marriage to the old king’s unwilling son and unite against the evil power that seeks to subjugate them. Unless the Imperon has his way. An epic fantasy adventure for young adult and adult readers, The Return of Tachlanad is the first book in the “Sword of Names” series.

---

The Return of Tachlanad is the engaging first part of a classic fantasy. There is a lost princess, an enchanted prince, a wandering King-to-Be, Wizards,  Warlords, half-human slaves, bloodthirsty barbarians, and loveable clowns in a fully-realized landscape where Magic – both Good and Evil – has been reawakened. Touching, authentic characters pursue their quests through this fairy-tale world, and, cross my heart as a bona fide Tolkien fan, you’ll care about them.

Lord Esterleigh's Daughter

BWL Publishing Inc. | The Serpent's Tooth

As a child, Anne Fairfield dreams of the father she never knew, the hero who died fighting the French and their Indian allies in a land across the sea. Her mother’s stories, and fantasies of her own devising, sustain and nurture her through a poor and lonely existence. Until one winter night, a strange man comes to call, and the life she has known comes crashing down like shattered glass. Forced to confront sordid truths, secrets and lies, the headstrong young woman begins to learn that, like generations of Darvey women ruled by their hearts, she is destined to follow in their footsteps. Set against the backdrop of 18th century England, Lord Esterleigh’s Daughter is the first book in “The Serpent’s Tooth” trilogy, which follows Anne from the rural countryside, to London society and into the center of the American Revolution.

---

Kathy Fischer-Brown's "The Serpent's Tooth" is a well=researched, well=written tale of English society in the latter half of the 18th century. It's the story of Anne Fairfield, raised in poverty but finding later that her father is a wealthy man. But he is also one with a convuluted and less than honorable past. Here we meet members of English society, both upper and lower classes, good and bad. How Anne reacts to these people shows us a heroine willing to fight for what she wants, unwilling to suffer fools gladly.
